Unlike PC or mobile, consoles such as Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch do not allow you to directly copy world folders into Minecraft. The primary way to play custom builds on a console is by syncing them through a Minecraft Realm.
Important: A Realms subscription is required for this method. Bedrock Realms cost around £3.29/month (Realms) or £5.49/month (Realms Plus) depending on your region. You can check current pricing in the Minecraft marketplace on your device.
Step 1: Import the World on PC or Mobile
Before you can upload a build to a Realm, you need to install it on a PC or mobile device first. Follow the relevant guide for your device:
- Installing Builds (Bedrock Edition) for Windows 10/11
- Installing Builds on Android
- Installing Builds on iOS (iPhone and iPad)
Once the world appears in your Play → Worlds list, you are ready for the next step.
Step 2: Upload to a Realm
- Open Minecraft on your PC or mobile device.
- Go to Play → Worlds.
- Find your imported build and tap the edit (pencil) icon.
- Scroll down and select Replace World.
- Choose your imported build and confirm.
- Wait for the upload to complete.
Step 3: Access on Your Console
On your Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch, log in with the same Microsoft account you used on your PC or mobile device.
- Open Minecraft and select Play → Realms.
- Choose your Realm.
- The build will load and you can start playing.
Saving the World Locally on Console (Optional)
If you want a local copy of the build saved directly to your console rather than only on the Realm:
- Make sure all players have left the Realm.
- Go to Realm Settings → Backups.
- Download the latest backup.
- The world will now appear in your local Worlds list on the console.
Xbox USB Method
On Xbox consoles, it may be possible to transfer world files via USB in some cases, though this method is not officially supported and results can vary. The Realms method above is the most reliable approach for all console platforms.
Important Notes
- A Realms subscription is required to sync builds to consoles.
- This method works for all Bedrock platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch).
- You can swap different builds in and out of your Realm at any time.
- Java Edition builds are not compatible with consoles. Make sure the build you purchased supports Bedrock Edition.
